Thomas Van Breusegem

Thomas studied applied economic sciences at KU Leuven. After his studies, he started as a finance consultant at Captains of Finance. For five years, he fulfilled several finance assignments to first deepen his knowledge in accounting and operational finance, and then in business controlling & analysis (FP&A). He has done several projects at two large listed companies, both specialising in sustainable mobility; as well as projects at a large international company in consultancy services. With five years of finance experience in his backpack and a growing professional network around him, he felt very driven to push his career to the next level. A unique opportunity came his way, interviews followed, and the next challenge he was looking for became concrete. On 1 January 2024, Thomas started in the capacity of Finance Business Partner (FBP) at Oxygen NV. In addition, he will be engaged half-time at Dixon HR. Both companies offer consultancy services – Oxygen within the insurance sector, Dixon HR within the HR sector – and in this way he is not leaving ‘the consultancy life’ entirely. As FBP, he engages in both operational and strategic finance. This includes accounting, reporting and business analysis, as well as contributing to the development, ‘fine-tuning’ and monitoring of the finance processes that serve to guide the business.

“I have always worked in large organisations with very clearly defined structures and processes. I operated within one business unit and fulfilled a clearly defined function. I missed the overarching ‘helicopter view’; I wanted to be involved in the management and results of all business units driving an organisation. I was looking for a more hybrid finance role where my responsibility would spread across operational and strategic management of all kinds of finance tasks within accounting and FP&A. This is what I think I have found at Oxygen and Dixon HR; challenge, variety, operational and strategic impact. As Finance Business Partner, I will be involved in most finance topics in order to sustainably build more business and more impact together with the Leadership Team and the Homebase Team.”
